ALICIA V. CARR
CEO/Founder Purple Evolution, Inc. (PEVO)
Alicia V. Carr is the first woman of color mobile developer to create a domestic violence app (PEVO) dedicated to helping victims escape abuse. She used her acquired skills as a developer to make a difference. Alicia was once Director of Women Who Code Atlanta she now dedicates her time speaking all over the world to empower, inspire and motivate women in tech. She has received several major acknowledgment from Apple at WWDC15 and WWDC16 being the first black woman to be in an Apple 2016 new beginnings video and was profiled by Github in an "I am a developer" video.
In her own words:
My vision and goal is to advance women in technology and grow confidence in changing their career to mobile development and technology opportunities. As a certified Life-Coach and CEO/Founder of Purple Evolution, Inc. (PEVO). I have been a strong advocate against family violence and crimes against women for many years. Being a child of domestic violence and losing a close friend to these unspeakable acts, led me to counseling and speaking out against domestic violence at any venue that would allow me.
PEVO was established in an effort to empower women of Domestic Violence with the essential tools required to develop a safe, secure exit plan. Furthermore, by shining the spotlight on this horrible crisis PEVO is bringing awareness to the community at large.
Being in touch with the digital age and my experience with technological advancements. My effort turned to creating a tool modern enough to attract millennial's, but visual enough to live in the social media universe. The first option was creating a tool on the Apple IOS mobile platform that was becoming the go to program for mobile devices. For a little over a year I studied and worked with programmers to learn and develop an app that would give me access to what my goal and vision was. What was created was "The Purple Pocketbook" IOS mobile app.
Purple Evolution, Inc. (PEVO) formerly The Purple Pocketbook, was established as an effort to empower women experiencing domestic violence with the essential tools required to develop a safe, secure exit plan. As someone who’s had family and friends fall victim to domestic violence, Alicia wants her app to help the millions suffering from abuse across the country.
